Bonito flakes substitute ?

I need to do a dashi ( flavored stoke with konbu and bonito flakes) for a vegetarian sushi recipe , BUT in the dashi recipe I need 2 cups of bonito flakes ( bonito is a fish) and I don't eat fish... So can I use another ingredient instead of the flakes?Bonito flakes substitute ?
You can't substitute anything vegetarian for real bonito flakes, but there are vegetarian and vegan dashi options.

Bonito broth either using flakes or powdered Hon Dashi is crucial and will affect the flavor or whatever you are making. You might be able to find a konbu broth at an Asian market.
