Hi, I am 18...never had a job before...just got hired by japanese steakhouse...I am getting paid $5.50/hour + tips...dishes at the restaurant range from $20-30...is that a good or normal wage for waitress at this kind of dining establishment?|||5.50 is really good. I was gettin 2.60 last year in Arkansas at a Fine Dining restaurant. But I still banked, because your check is not really important, it's your tips. All of your taxes from the tips you claim come out of your check. You should do fairly well. Just learn how to think fast and on your feet, and how to consolidate.Waiting tables can be a lot of fun, but it can turn into a nightmare really fast if you get too stressed out. Just try to have fun, be laid back, always use "ma'am" and "sir", and jus aim to please. Guests love it when they think that you really care if they do not want tomatoes on their salad, or onions in their stir-fry. It's all an act on your part so just have fun with it!|||5.50 is a pretty good wage if you get tips. Normally restaurants pay 2-3 dollars an hour and you basically make a living off the tips, so 5.50 is really pretty good. a company doesnt have to meet the minimum wage requirement in texas if there are tips. so it sounds like a pretty good deal. the minimum wage in texas is 6.55 right now, and changing to 7.25 at the end of july. btw: japanese food tends to run more expensive, so your tips will be greater too!|||Oh yeah that's pretty good! You are so lucky to be making that much especially now. One of my friends used to work at a restaurant as a hostess and she was getting paid less than that per hour. But they allow that because she was making a lot more in tips. If the plates are $20-$30 I think you'll be making some great money for a teen with a first job. Just be super friendly and helpful and you'll do great. Stick with it while you go to school! :)|||Yeah it is really good!
just a piece of advice...
be really friendly to customers and when you see friendly peple coming have a joke or two with them! might earn you an extra (2 reasons: being good to customers so they like you as a waitress... or just getting tips from customers!)

In all stay with the jobs.|||Really good most places I have looked into working at pay 2-3 dollars plus tips so if you get 5.50 plus tips thats amazing
