T.V.P (Textured Vegetable Protein)?

Hi All,

I am learning about TVP, and I am after some really simple recipes.

More so after simple lunch box ideas rather than full on dinner recipes or such. I generally need to eat lunch on the go so the less fussy the better!

Thanks.|||Any way you can cook crumbled hamburger or sausage, you can substitute TVP. Great for using the recipies that you already have and turning them into vegetarian/vegan.

Throwing the TVP partially rehydrated into a heated salsa also works (or any other flavored/spiced liquid). For quick rehydration, add 3/4 to 1 cup boiling water to 1 cup TVP. No extra cooking time is really needed -- just let it soak up the water for a few minutes. This can also be tossed into spaghetti sauces, for making taco meat, soups, chili, sloppy joes, meat loaf, enchiladas and more. The list goes on as far as your creativity can reach.|||veggie burgers

15 oz can of black beans

3/4 cup TVP (rehydrated with lightly less than 3/4 cup boiling water)

1/2 slice crumbled bread

1/2 cup oat flakes (preferably quick oats)

replacement for one egg (like two tablespoons ground flax mixed with enough boiling water to make it into a paste- this will bind the ingredients together)

either fresh chopped onion or dehydrated onion flakes

worstershire sause to taste (i use lots)

smoke flavoring to taste (I use mesquite)

a thin layer of olive oil in a pan, on medium to high heat.

Mash the beans a little first, to make them more sticky- I just use my hands, then add the rest of the ingredients and work together, then form into patties and fry. Cover the pan while frying. So easy to reheat. for an easy at-work burger, wrap it in lettuce with tomato and pickles, all your condiments, and slip it in a baggie or wrap it in wax paper. If you want more veggies inside the burger, add finely chopped carrots and green peppers to the "goo" before you fry it, but be ready to use more egg replacer so they don't fall apart.

ps I just made this up the other day, because I had a half-hour at home to make lunch for my husband. He actually liked it ( a small miracle, since it was not meat) but he ate it with A-1 sauce instead of as a burger. Served it with a whole grain pasta and garden veggie salad with an olive oil/vegan mayonaise/vinegar/steak seasoning dressing.|||You should probably avoid using that stuff in your kid's lunches because it is a form of MSG, which is a food additive that enhances the flavor of foods artificially, therefore promoting more obesity and addiction to food. Also, the soy crop is highly genetically engineered.|||i use it in place of meat in recipes such as spaghetti sauce, chili etc.

it does reduce the liquid in your recipe as it reconsitutes itself so allow for more liquid.

don't know of any lunch box ideas, sorry
