What types of formations are found in Zion National Park ?

I have a science project on Zion National Park and one of the questions asks what types of formations are found in your area. I could not find this anywhere. Please help.|||it is a dissected plateau, with many layers of sedimentary rock, that have been eroded largely by the Virgin River

  • Zion National Park?

I am visiting Zion Park. Can anyone tell me where to stay? Thanks, Patti|||When visiting Zion National Park I stay in Springdale located just outside the south entrance station. Browse through this web page for suitable accommodations - http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g61001鈥?/a> You should also check this web site for in-park lodging - http://www.zionlodge.com/.

I've stayed both inside and outside of the park on previous visits. It's nice to be in the park although the visitor center is easier to get to from Springdale. Based on my experiences I recommend staying outside. Being in Springdale gives you access to the restaurants and shops located in this quaint little town. Staying inside the park gives you no choice at all. All meals will be at the lodge restaurant or snack bar and all shopping will be at the lodge gift shop. To get to Springdale you'll have to take the shuttle bus to the visitor center and walk to town from there or drive out and look for parking in town.

Private vehicles are banned from the park during the summer months unless you have a reservation at the lodge. Even if you do you'll have to park your car there and use the park shuttle system. I've stayed at the Quality Inn at Zion Park in the past and found it to be acceptable. It's clean, quite and comfortable plus they serve a free continental breakfast. What I liked most about the Quality Inn at Zion Park is that I could leave my car parked there, walk about a quarter mile to the Zion visitor center and board the shuttle bus there. Very convenient.

I hope you find what you're looking for. Have fun!|||Damn, we really sucked up to Israel with this one.

I'm always late to find out about cool things happening in NYC, and I need to know of a site or something that will keep me up to date on things going on around me, because I'm always late to find out about them.

For example just recently I missed out on "Electric Zoo" and "Fashion's Night Out"

I'm interested in pretty much any event that brings out a lot of artists and celebrities, but mostly a huge crowd of fans. (I want become more social, and break out of this bubble I've trapped myself inside of)

I don't want to fill up the details with my life story/mental illnesses/relationships/crap because I want to make my past irrelevant to who I become.

A near death experience, for example...|||I'm not even gonna lie, you current life seems pretty enjoyable.|||to me being clean from drugs for like 3 months that sounds like a ******* awesome day to me|||There is only one thing you are lacking is dat A GIRL FRIEND, U NEED ROMANCE IN YOUR LIFE N DAT WILL CHANGE UR WORLD.|||1. Cigarette smoking: sure , it calms you from stress %26amp; etc but , it can also lead you to lying in a hospital room covered in wires . Try %26amp; take some nicotine or anything that can help you quit . Your 19 , you still have a good future ahead of you . This is enough time for you to change this before things become worse .

    2. Drinking: It's fun once in a while . It's alright to have a couple of drinks with friends but every single person has a limit in their body before they become completely wasted . When you're drinking , try to remember that there is a limit to before you get that "drunk" feeling . I know someone who died after they got completely intoxicated with drinks .

    3. Weed: Same thing as cigarette but actually , probably worse . This is a drug . This may sound kiddish but , drugs are bad . Smoking both cigarettes %26amp; weed is a small step each time leading to your death . The more you do it , the less of your future you get . Think about what you want to become , who you want to marry ...? Things like that .|||I have to commend you because you see that what you are doing is not working for you. That is good because you know that something has to change. If nothing changes, then nothing changes, right?

As I read your daily schedule, I did not see any kind of prayer life. I know that you may not want to hear about the Bible or Jesus, but that is what is needed in your life. Drugs, alcohol and the same old friends, who are not trying to change, can only mean depression, downers, and more depression coupled with more and more sadness and grief.

Is sneakin a couple pills of Ecstacy on a flight easy?

I might go to the electric zoo in NY but i dont know anyone in NY cept my relatives. if i put a couple pills in a very veyr small plastic bag then put it in my boxer briefs it would be pretty easy right? pretty sure e doesnt have a scent and i could prob just cover up the smell with somethign else... thinkin about it the only thing i would have to pass is a metal detector. i travel every summer n ive never seen a drug sniffin dog|||even if u get caught i dont think it will big deal cuz its not enuf to be trafficing right?|||About those pesky drug-sniffing dogs: A few days ago a drug-sniffing dog handler told me that TSA is really beefing up the numbers of dogs, and doing that not only by training more of their people and dogs, but by "borrowing" the dogs and handlers from local law enforcement, state law enforcement, and other federal agencies, even the National Park Service. The goal is to have 100% coverage very, very soon. Another interesting tidbit about those dogs -- most of them can sniff drugs from very long distances, and then lead the handler to the source. So go ahead and roll the dice and take your chances if you like, but don't be terribly surprised if you are caught and arrested.|||If you really have your heart set on taking the pills with you then why don't you put them in a pill bottle?

heres the situation, I'm 20 and he's 21 he just got out of a 6 month relationship with a 18 year old girl and I was kinda of friends with her she was to be honest very ditsy and clingy. Me and this guy have been friends for a while also been in the same large friend group. (Everything Im about to say Is prior to him having a Girlfriend) for a while ive been hooking up with some of his friends but not many so he doesnt know much about me like "that" untill recently I went to a concert (electric zoo) and hooked up with one of his close friends which became a three some with him but I was very hesitant because I didnt really want to get with his friend in the first place so the hookup/sex was awkward and terrible (we didnt have sex) and I feel like it may have made a lasting impression. but regardless. every time we talk he says call me tomorrow like atleast once or twice and invites me out to places and is very nice and usually is cliquey with other ppl but he let me into his personal circle. • Can't think of a trance song, could someone please help me?

I went to electric zoo this weekend, and seeing atb and tiesto live made me realize how I miss 90s trance. As I was reminiscing, I thought of this one song and now I can't seem to find it. I remember it starting by a woman talking about some club that opened and ten years later "was still kicking". it was something like "In 1992, a club opened bla bla bla (dont remember), now ten years later, we are still kicking" Then she yelled something (which I think was the name of the club: "Bon aedi(or something like that I never fully grasped what she said). Best way to get to NYC?

I'm going to Electric Zoo soon, a 2-day music festival in New York City. I'm coming from State College, PA (in the middle of PA). What would be the best way to get there? I have a car, but I'm not too thrilled about trying to drive in NYC and there's also the issue of parking.|||Best way will be MegaBus, but in order to get cheaper fare, you must book in advance.

MegaBus leaves SW Corner of Walmart Parking Lot and takes you to 7th Av %26amp; 28th St Subway Station in Manhattan. In return trip, MegaBus leaves from 31st St %26amp; 8th Av, by former M10 Bus Stop.|||There is a train that goes directly from Lewistown, PA to NYC (Penn Station). I gather Lewistown is not far from State College. (I gather it's about a 45 minute drive from State College to Lewistown.)

There is a direct train from Lewistown to NYC - it leaves around 11 am and takes almost 6 hours to get to NYC.

While that may sound like a long time, driving takes time, too. And on a train there is no traffic to deal with, and you can just lean back and read or listen to your ipod or sleep.

And when you get here, you won't have to worry about what to do with your car. The train leaves you right in Midtown, too - unlike flying. You'll be right in the heart of NYC when you step off the train.|||Take a bus or Train. Also think about this... If your take a freight train you wouldn't have to pay for gas or deal with parking in NYC. Just an Idea|||Check out gotobus.com Seems you may be able to get a roundtrip ticket for about $50.00. Then while you're in New York you can get you an unlimited MTA pass for the train (or bus). Have fun!!!

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO A RAVE?

i'm going to electric zoo fest and its my first rave. and its 2 days long! if you have been to one before, do people wear fanny packs? i was thinking of wearing either my red or pink fanny pack. what should i do? should i wear a fanny pack on my waist or should i just bring my purse with me?|||hey im going too for the first time with some friends!!!...i personally dont know any other people that will be there...email me if you want =)|||oh my god. dont bring a purse to a two day rave. your stuff will get stolen! do the fanny pack! The pack must be a cute tho. you should wear the pink one and customize it with glitter and things like that. =) you'll find that when you go.........some people are wearing more wierd things than a fanny pack. or ppl just arn't wearing anything at all!! but have fun lol and ya dont bring the purse.

COULD I WEAR A FANNY PACK TO A RAVE?

i'm going to the electric zoo festival, it is a two day long rave, and i was thinking of wearing either my pink or red fanny pack. i have a purse too but do people wear fanny packs at raves? i've never been to one. should i wear my fanny pack there or just bring my purse?|||Hell yeah! It's a rave, as long as it's neon then bring it on. It'll be safer then bringing a purse, in my opinion.|||I've seen people rock fanny packs before, their 80's-tastic. However it may not be very practical. Keep in mind you are probably going to be dancing all night, and you don't want things like purses to get in your way, theirs usually not a safe place to set them down.

This may sound scandalous, but it works. Tuck the essentials (your id, $20 or so for water or whatever else you may need) in the side of your bra, under your arm. That way all your limbs are free for dancing, and you don't have to worry about hitting people with your purse/fanny pack.

You are going to get really hot and tired and want to take breaks. Keep anything else you may need in your car because a nice short walk to the car to get your stuff is a great way to cool down.

Happy Raving!|||If you feel your fanny pack is raving like hell then just bring it to the party and shake it. I think if you love how it looks on you, your confidence will make it 'fit in'.|||Bring your purse, I defiantly wouldn't wear a fanny pack anyway even if i wasn't going to a rave....|||anything is possible at a rave.

Do people wear fanny packs to raves?

i'm going to electric zoo fest and its my first rave. i have a two day pass and i was wondering if i should wear one of my fanny packs? i have a pink one and a red one. but i also have a black purse. should i wear a fanny pack to the rave or would it be better to carry my purse?|||If you knew anything at all about raves... you would wear a fanny pack. Seriously? how else do you carry things and not lose them without a fanny pack? we all know backpacks are not allowed...or you should know...so yes, wear the pink one! :)|||no no no do not wear a fanny pack|||wear the pink one i mean u will prolly be the only person with one but every one will be like oh my gosh look at the person with the fanny pack thats awesome haha|||Why do you even OWN a fanny pack?? I thought those were dead years ago. I'd skip out on that entirely.

Where can I find glow in the dark paint like this?

    http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd418/goshkaity/thing_18066784_l.jpg

that will sparkle and I can make stars with? I want to do something like this for Electric Zoo this year, so if you know anything please let me know, thanks!|||You can get them at your local Arts %26amp; Crafts store. Mix it with a little glitter for sparkle and you've got yourself that glow star effect. Some girls use "black light paint" as well for its awesome fluorescent glow. But that's to be used on fabric like t-shirts so that they glow in neon shapes when the lights are turned off.

By the way, I've seen theme clubs in the city with their walls and ceiling painted with glow-in-the-dark stars. They make them from clear paint mixed with glow powder (blue, green, yellow, orange) and stencils to etch out those lovely patterns. I've seen them in people's houses too... mine included :)|||Look at your local Michael's. They have some. Then just buy a little container of glitter, for it to sparkle. Good luck!

Where in New York can I find a "18 to check-in" hotel?

I need to find a hotel that is 18+ to check-in. My friend and I are going to the Electric Zoo Festival this Labor Day weekend and ALL the hotels require you to be at least 21 years old, we're 20. At this point, price/location doesn't really matter but hotels in NEW YORK are a must; searches I've made can't filter out New Jersey for some reason. Is going to the electic zoo in nyc fun?

is electric zoo worth going to|||= Electric Zoo Music Festival -- Randall's Island is hosting the huge Electric Zoo electronic music festival on Saturday and Sunday. Get ready for two days of music 70+ artists including The Chemical Brothers. Tickets are $96 per person for one day, $157 for a two-day pass.

How long does it take for mail to arrive at your house?

I ordered electric zoo tickets online on thursday and still haven't gotten them yet.|||That all depends on where the letter is mailed from.

Generally, Mail sent from your own city..should come the next day * if it was sent out at least before 2pm.

Mail in your state - 1-2 days

    Neighboring states 2-3 days

Other regions can take anywhere from 2-5 days.

With something like tickets, they probably have a processing time, but even with that, if theyre in the same city.. I would be questioning them, if they didnt come by Wed's mail.

What should I wear to an outdoor music festival?

Hey! I'm going to the Electric Zoo in NY and I am wondering what types of clothes should I wear? I want to be comfy, but I want to look sexy too.|||Wear something lightweight and comfortable that you can dance in.

A longer cotton skirt (hits right above your knees) and a tank top is probably best. Don't wear anything too short, or you will not be able to dance! Don't wear jeans; you will be too hot.

Since it's an electronic music festival, you should probably wear something bright/shiny/glittery. Bring lots of glowsticks! Put them in your hair! Put glitter on your face and your body.

You could wear something like this: http://store.americanapparel.net/rsac303鈥?/a>

with a cute skirt or shorts over it.

Who should I see at Electric Zoo?

There's multiple venues - does anyone have any advice for seeing artists? Maybe some sort of trip plan? http://www.madeevent.com/ElectricZoo/|||Lucky, lucky you. You'll be in for a treat.

1 - Flying Lotus is sick. His live sets are impossible to beat. He puts so much energy and enthusiasm into his music. It'll be diverse too.

2 - Martyn is a fantastic DJ. As far as DJ's go, his music selection is really tight, quality mixing.

3 - A Trak is a former world DMC champion. If you have any interest in turntablism, definitely check him out. Scratching, quality music, very clever skills.

4 - Rusko is a bad man. He'll lay down some filthy tracks. Nothing too deep, just good quality raving music.

5 - Marco Carola. Really heavy techno sounds. He's just heavy, heavy, heavy.....

6 - The Glitch Mob. They were pretty tidy last time I saw them. Four piece band, making some shuddering beats. They do incredible stuff live.

7 - Richie Hawtin. A techno innovator. Definitely worth checking.

Major Lazer, Aeroplane and Fake Blood would be next on the list. I haven't seen any of those three but I've heard good things.

If you can only see one artist there, please, make sure it's Flying Lotus. I haven't seen him live for a couple of years and I would willingly submit my left testicle to see him play again. Nuff said. Have a great time.|||Electric Zoo 2010 prices go up this Thursday

What is the best train to take from Trenton to the electric zoo festival held at Randall's island park?

i need to know what train to take to the electric zoo festival before i book it|||My friend, there is not direct train service to the Randall's Island from Trenton, NJ. Therefore, you will need to make multiple changes in order to get from there to Randall's Island. Here's how to get from Trenton to Randall's Island.

Step 1: take NJ Transit's Northeast Corridor Line from Trenton to New York Penn Station. The one way fare on the NJ Transit from Trenton to NYC will cost you $12.50. If you traveling during the off peak hours, the round trip will cost you just $21.50. Please purchase your ticket before board, because fares are higher aboard.

Step 2: once in New York City, transfer to the New York City subway. Take the uptown (northbound) "E" train (Blue Line on the subway map) from Penn Station Lexington Avenue/53rd Street.

Step 3: at Lexington Avenue/53rd Street, transfer upstairs to the uptown (northbound) #6 train (Green Line). Take the uptown #6 train from 51st Street to 125th Street.

The fare on the subway is $2.25 one way ($4.50 round trip). The transfer between subway lines are free.

Step 4: at 125th Street, exit the subway and transfer a special shuttle bus that will take from Lexington Avenue and 125th Street to Randall's Island. The bus number is X80 and its located at the northwest corner of 125th and Lexington Avenue. The transfer between the subway and bus is free with your MetroCard.

I hope this information is very helpful. If you have any questions or need travel directions while in town, just drop me a line by clicking on the avatar and e-mail icon in the profile. I'll be glad to help.

but tickets are like 300 dollars.

is it worth the money?|||Close your eyes, imagine being there, Kaskade, Avicii, NYC ... can you imagine NOT going?

It's all a matter of how much you love EDM. I missed last year's Ultra and still regret it, so if you can work, and make another $300, go.

If you go to a private venue, like a club, you'd still spend about $75 to watch one DJ, here you will have a fabulous lineup, think about that too.

The energy alone is just out of this world, and the crowd is so cool, no violence, no problems.

I will go. Look at it this way, EDC was a child's game compared to this one!

I'm going to Electric Zoo Festival next weekend and is Irene going to stop it?

I'm going to Electric Zoo Festival next weekend and its on the Randall's Island Field. I'm seeing that JFK airport is suppose to get about 20 feet of flooding this sunday in two days. Electric Zoo is in a week, won't the field be in pretty bad condition for the 36 hour festival?|||With the possibility of Irene approaching, most concerts, street fairs and other events are canceled for the weekend by the mayor.

But keep watch of the storm and if any changes by news reports for tomorrow and Sunday.|||All of the islands are low-lying areas subject to flooding, so your concerns are justified. You'll just have to wait and listen for updates about the festival. The organizers are probably waiting just as you are to see what sort of flooding occurs, and how fast the water drains away.|||My friend, the storm will pass by that time. No need to worry about it.

Good luck|||I'd wait till this Monday to make any decisions. Let's first get through this weekend.

What are some other music festivals that are like WMC, electric zoo and ultra music festival?

I live in NY and I was planning on going to electric zoo but thats in september and I leave for college in late August. The college im going to is in florida but of course WMC and Ultra Music Festival (are they the same thing I wasn't sure?) are in March. So does anyone know of any other music festivals like these that take place in the north east area from now until august, or any that are in florida from september to dec?|||check out EDC!! or Coachella has some stuff like that, but it's in April in California.. those are the only ones I can think of aside from Ultra and Electric Zoo, but they're not in the locations you specified, and I'm pretty sure those are the only other big electronic music events in america:[ unless you just want any music festival, then theres more!! bonnaroo, lollapalooza, etc etc.

But!! If you feel like traveling over the summer you could hit up EDC in California, Texas, or Puerto Rico :D

I live in Florida and Ultra is pretty much the biggest thing that happens here, all year xP

oo and WMC and Ultra are 2 different things, but they used to be sort of the same cause they were held at the same time!! But they are 2 different events, WMC is like a DJ networking thing or something? Yeh I'm still a bit confused by it

hope you find a solution though!!^.^

edit: theres also something called the detroit electronic music festival in may i think!!

What are some good recipes for use with textured vegetable protein (tvp)?

    CHILI

1-2 cups TVP (granules, chunks or slices. It鈥檚 best to not use all granules, the bigger chunks make this chili into something special)

    1 lg onion, chopped

    1 green pepper, chopped

    3 cloves garlic

1-2 jalapenos (depending on how hot you like it)

    3 stalks celery, chopped

    1 can mushrooms, chopped

    3 tbsp chili powder

    2 tsp oregano

    2 tsp cumin

2 cans tomatoes (whole or diced or a mixture of both, flesh and juices)

2 cans beans (whatever Romano beans, black eyed peas, black beans, beans in tomato sauce, kidney beans. etc)

    1 can corn

broth (optional, depending on desired thickness)

    salt and pepper to taste

For chunks or slices of TVP: put dry TVP in a bowl and cover with boiling water, keeping in mind it will double in size. Let stand for 15 minutes. Drain, rinse under cold water, and press out as much liquid as you can. If using granules, you can add them to the chili dry.

Saute onion, pepper, garlic, jalape帽o, and celery in oil until soft. Add mushrooms and continue cooking for a few minutes. Add TVP and spices and cook for a few more minutes. Add the rest of the ingredients, except for the broth. Once everything is in the pot and simmering, decide if you鈥檒l want to add broth to thin it out a bit.

Cover and simmer for 30 minutes to an hour, stirring occasionally. Once flavours are blended and everything is soft, add salt and pepper to taste. Then chow down This is so healthy and yummy - it鈥檚 great with a dollop of plain yogurt too. It freezes well, and it鈥檚 easy to double this recipe (if you have a big enough pot, that is ).|||Check out the New Farm Vegetarian Cookbook- they have a whole chapter about TVP and recipes

  • Is ''artificial chicken flavour'' vegetarian?

So there's no food in the house and I'm really hungry, my mum bought some Nong Shim Oolongmen (chicken flavour) which I was absolutely addicted to before I was veggie.

I looked and there is no real meat in there, only textured vegetable protein, which I eat all the time in things like Quorn and meat substitutes, so that's not a problem.

It does say ''artificial chicken flavouring'' and ''artificial beef flavouring'' on it. I was going to eat it, but I decided to check first. Nowhere does it say online so I asked :(

    Is it veggie?

I mean, it's artificial right?|||My sister is absolutely addicted to that food, its her life-saver since she's a vegetarian in a carnivorous household. Since it says, "artificial" which means false, its great for you to eat. Hope this helpsss!|||If it doesnt say vegetarian on the packet it probably isnt. It is probably the mono-and di-glycerides of fatty acids which can be got from either plant or animal source (tallow). If it doesnt say otherwise it will be the animal one. Depends how strict you are.|||Unless it says "vegetarian" at the back, I'd call or mail them and ask before you eat it. I had a pack of asian-style ramen that cointained [artificial chicken flavor] and it said vegetarian at the back.|||Not an animal product , but is chemical and so not vegetarian , but not carnivore either.

Bit like saying is sand vegetarian.|||Yes its veggie artificial means false %26gt;%26gt; not existing naturally so you can eat it. :) Hope i helped.|||It is safe.

About how many calories am i burning a day?

i'm 18 years old, 5'2'' and 150 pounds. i drink two cups of green tea (no sugar) during the day, as well as around 2 liters of water (very cold). i only eat fresh, raw fruits and veggies and vegan protein sources (textured vegetable protein, soy products, beans, raw nuts, etc)

i start off my day by doing 100 crunches, 25 inner thigh lifts, 25 outer thigh lifts, 2 minutes of planks (30-second intervals) and 10 push ups.

then i have school all day, but have a lot of chorus/band classes, so there's probably a total of about 1.5-2 hours of standing involved

i work at a day care playing with kids outside, pushing them on swings, etc for about 1.5 hours each day

    my evening work out is:

10 minute warm up on elliptical

    5 minutes stretching

10 minutes HiiT on the treadmill (1 minute walking at 3mph, 30 seconds running at 7mph)

15 minutes weight lifting on bowflex

    25 minutes stair step machine

    5 minutes stretching

i also play Dance Dance Revolution on the Wii in "choreograph" mode which uses your arms and legs for about half an hour each day. the wii says i'm burning 300 calories, but i'm not sure how accurate that is.

Is This A Healthy Diet Plan? How Much Weight Will i Lose?

okay so right now i'm 16 years old, about 5'2'' (done growing, haven't grown since about 7th grade) and 145 pounds. my bmi is 26.5, which is considered overweight. i'd like to get down to around 115-120 pounds, so my bmi would be in the healthy range. i was just wondering if this diet would be healthy...it all fits into the South Beach Diet Phase 1, but i'm a vegan, so i didnt know if it would still be healthy...

breakfast: smoothie made of: 1/5 container silken tofu, 1 Cup unsweetened soymilk, 2 Tbsp hershey's unsweetened coco powder, 3 Tbsp flax seeds, vanilla extract and Splenda to taste

    snack: 15 almonds

lunch: salad made of: spinach, romaine, cucumber, red bell pepper, 1/2 Cup chick peas, 1 tsp olive oil and red wine vinegar. and soup made of: 1 Cup vegetable broth, 1/4 Cup textured vegetable protein, and 1 stalk celery

snack: 1/2 Cup broccoli, 1/4 Cup red bell pepper, 1 stalk celery with 2 Tbsp classic hummus. and 1 1/2 Tbsp (1/2 serving) soy protein mixed in 8 oz water

dinner: 1/2 Cup Boca meatless "ground beef", 1/2 Cup black beans, 1/4 Cup diced tomatoes and chiles, 1 1/2 Cups spinach

    dessert: 1 sugar-free popsicle

so that all adds up to:

    *around 1200 calories

    *44g fat

    *16g sugar

    *64g fiber

    *90g protein

and i'll be taking a multivitamin and b12 supplement each morning. and drinking at least 64 oz ice water every day.

i'll also be working out every day, doing about 45 minutes of intense cardio and taking a 2-3 mile walk at a normal pace. i'll also add in some weight training with a bowflex and free weights.

so is that a healthy diet plan? will i still lose 14 pounds in 2 weeks like the South Beach Diet book says? oh, and if anyone has some good toning exercises for abs/butt/thighs...that would be appreciated!!

thanks in advance.|||I think you'll starve if you eat only that. Don't be afraid to eat more, it is the quality of what you eat not the calories or the quantity that counts. 100 calories from a tomato and 100 calories from a hamburger are very different type of calories for example. 100 calories from a tomato cannot make you fat, but a hamburger will. Don't rely on the calorie number, it does not represent things accurately.

"breakfast: smoothie made of: 1/5 container silken tofu, 1 Cup unsweetened soymilk, 2 Tbsp hershey's unsweetened coco powder, 3 Tbsp flax seeds, vanilla extract and Splenda to taste"

This is all good except the splenda. Never use splenda to sweeten, it's bad for health. The body cannot digest sucralose because it's 100% chemical and man-made, the body transforms into fat everything it cannot digest. Sucalose has also been known to attack the brain. Use natural honey, natural maple syrup or stevia. They all taste sugary but are not harmful to health and don't cause weight gain.

    "snack: 15 almonds"

This is good, but I suggest eating 30 of them.

"lunch: salad made of: spinach, romaine, cucumber, red bell pepper, 1/2 Cup chick peas, 1 tsp olive oil and red wine vinegar. and soup made of: 1 Cup vegetable broth, 1/4 Cup textured vegetable protein, and 1 stalk celery"

Make the 1/2 cup chick peas into 1 cup, and add some quinoa.

"snack: 1/2 Cup broccoli, 1/4 Cup red bell pepper, 1 stalk celery with 2 Tbsp classic hummus. and 1 1/2 Tbsp (1/2 serving) soy protein mixed in 8 oz water"

    Good

"dinner: 1/2 Cup Boca meatless "ground beef", 1/2 Cup black beans, 1/4 Cup diced tomatoes and chiles, 1 1/2 Cups spinach"

Make 2/3 and 2/3 cups (boca, black beans), add much more vegetables.

    "dessert: 1 sugar-free popsicle "

Sugar-free means it either has aspartame, which is dangerous, or sucralose which is not good. You should try making your own popsicles using what I said earlier, honey, etc.

It would also be a good idea to drink your water with organic tea or herbal tea. It's a good way to get additional nutrition for little effort.|||sounds good to me|||You must have correct information if you want to lose weight. how much weight can i lose by next saturday if i stick to this?|||Just so you know, it's only healthy to lose about 1-2 lbs of fat per week. Any more than that isn't recommended for long-term health or creating a sustainable healthy lifestyle.

    Question about grits...? help!?

So I'm going grocery shopping today and I was going to pick up some of Quakers instant grits.

As a vegan, i noticed that almost all of the flavors are like cheddar cheese, ham n cheese, country bacon flavor..

The ingredients for country bacon are:

SPECIALLY PROCESSED DEGERMINATED WHITE CORN GRITS, TEXTURED VEGETABLE PROTEIN (TEXTURED SOY FLOUR, SOYBEAN OIL, WATER, SALT, HYDROGENATED STARCH HYDROLYSATES, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR, HYDROLYZED SOY PROTEIN, SUGAR, CARAMEL COLOR, CITRIC ACID, POTASSIUM SORBATE, YELLOW 6, RED 3), SALT, CALCIUM CARBONATE, REDUCED IRON, NIACIN*, BHT AND CITRIC ACID (AS PRESERVATIVES), THIAMIN MONONITRATE*, RIBOFLAVIN*, FOLIC ACID*.

    *ONE OF THE B VITAMINS

So is that safe to eat?|||It might be safe, but it might not be vegan. As Marko said, Natural Flavor could be animal based. http://www.quakeroats.com/contact-us.asp鈥?/a> is the contact us page for quaker. E-mail them and ask them what the natural flavors are.

I concur that it would just be better to get the unflavored and add what you want to it. Bacos are vegan, so add some vegan margarine and some Bacos if you want a similar taste.|||Natural flavor could be meat derived. Besides that sounds disgusting, just get normal grits and add stuff to it.|||yeah, outside of the coloring that is mostly natural and definitely NOT meat or dairy

  • How do you make veggie chicken nuggets at home?

I've been vegetarian for going on 15 years now and have spent more money than I'd like to think about on veggie "chicken" products. I know Whole Foods has a vegan chicken salad that I'm hooked on, and a diner down the road has some veggie hot wings that even my meat-eating boyfriend LOVES. I'm also sick of spending between $4-$5 on Morningstar Meal Starters.

I know that it's textured vegetable protein for the most part, but how do you make it? Can you buy it to make your own concoctions??

I've either never seen it in stores or never noticed it. Any ideas? The veggie hot wings run about $8 for 5 wings, so I'd really love to learn how to make those at home.

    Thanks!|||your best bet:

get some extra-firm tofu, take it out of the package, wrap it in paper towel and put it under a little weight for a few hours to remove much of the moisture

then cut it into nugget sizes, toss them in flour, then an egg wash, then some breadcrumbs

then pan fry them until nice and brown on both sides

this should be fairly cheap compared to what you are used to, since near me i can get nearly a pound of tofu for less than $3, the premade stuff is at least twice that for the same volume

Where do the Ingredients come from?

Ok I am trying to fined out where the hunt's manwich ingredients come from?

    here are the ingredients.

Tomato Puree (Water, Tomato Paste), Seasoned Cooked Beef (Beef, Seasoning [Flavorings, Salt, Spices, Dextrose], Tomato Paste, Salt, Soybean Oil), Sugar, Textured Vegetable Protein (Soy Flour, Caramel Color), Vinegar, Salt, Dehydrated Onion, Spices, Dehydrated Green Bell Pepper, Paprika, Modified Food Starch, Potassium Sorbate and Sodium Benzoate (As A Preservative), Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, Glucono Delta Lactone, Xanthan Gum, Caramel Color, Flavorings. Contains: Soy.|||Large food companies usually have their own ranches and farms to grow what they need for their products. Is this what you needed to know???|||Ahh, no one is telling you not to eat it, its bad, ect. And I still can't find any answers.

Will This Diet Help Me Lose Weight?

breakfast: 1/2 grapefruit, smoothie made of: 8 strawberries, 1 banana, 1 Cup unsweetened soymilk, 1/2 serving of genisoy protein powder

lunch: soup made of: 1 tsp vegetable soup base, 1 1/2-2 Cups water, 3 stalks celery, 8 baby carrots, 1/2 Cup textured vegetable protein, 16 oz crystal light green tea

snack: 1/4 red bell pepper, 1/2 Cup broccoli, 1 stalk celery, 2 Tbsp original hummus, 1 orange. 1/2 serving of soy protein powder mixed in water

dinner: 1 Cup romaine, 1 boca burger, 1/2 Cup black beans

because i'm a vegan, i'll be taking a multivitamin, b21 supplement and a calcium + vitamin D supplement every morning. and i'll be drinking around 64 oz of water each day.

i'll be doing at least 45 minutes of cardio and 15 minutes of weight training every day, too.

is this diet healthy? how much weight will i lose? is there anything that needs to be added/taken away?

thanks in advance. y'all are loved.|||Yes you will lose weight but it's a bit lacking in terms of health. You have an excellent fruit and veg intake but you need at least 3 servings of wholegrain carbs per day. It's a myth that these make you gain weight and they're essential for regulating your cholesterol. Cutting them out can damage your heart and will also make you more likely to feel hungry throughout the day. Have a couple of slices of wholegrain bread with your soup at lunch and perhaps a jacket potato for dinner. You're only talking an extra couple of hundred calories so it won't make your diet any less effective. Good luck.

PS- Are you a princess? X|||one of the better and well thought out diets i,ve seen on here. you might want to go to 1200 calories to avoid fatigue.|||Excellent, I'd boost your calorie intake to around 1500 though. You really have a firm grasp on eating right. Get some exercise regularly and don't cut those calories too low. You should be a happy girl by the end of this year.

    Vegetarian Ideas...please?!?!?

I'm converting to vegetarian after much thought, and do not think it will be a stretch for me. I already don't eat meat very often, as meat is expensive and I like veggies better. I am a big fan of flavorful, diverse foods however, and need some ideas for a shopping list. It should be noted that I am very "thrifty" as I am trying to pay of a lot of bills, and don't have a very big grocery budget. My friend Nandu has told me about textured vegetable protein (which sounds a bit scary), and I already have tofu, lentils, chick peas, eggplant, and zucchini on my list. I'm just looking for "heavy" vegetables that will fill me up and work well in recipes.

Any ideas?|||Enjoy the wholesome goodness of some carrots.|||wel u can eat a vegie burger or fish i mean fish dont have miinds and god gave us theas animals so we can eat anmd well u can eat crabs andfruite saldas|||ASian cookery is really inexpensive buy rice and soya sauce, vegetarian oyster sauce, coconut milk, some vegetarian curry paste (or make your own). A note on textured vegetable protein

its like mince meat when you add some hot water to it but its made out of soy product. Its quite good we make "meat" balls out of it for spaghetti and meat balls and it tastes good.|||potatoes, u can this to ur list. then if possible try to get the C vegetables.that is carrot capsicum cauliflower cucumber.they all go well in salad.

do forget to get lemon.jus a squeeze of it over ur dish and u have yummy tasting dish.

good luck....|||I find tofu to be way tastier than TVP, even if it doesn't have the same texture. That's just my opinion. Tofu is cheaper too. They are both made from soybeans though, so don't be afraid, lol. Your list looks good. Bok choy, asparagus and artichokes are my favorite vegetables. Peanuts are also good for you. Not peanut butter, which is loaded with sugar.|||my son and I love roasted broccoli with olive oil and garlic. Roast in the pan at 400 for about 15 minutes. Take about 2/3 cup of balsamic vinegar and add 2 teaspoons of brown sugar. Cook till heated. Add the the broccoli with some parmesan cheese and wheat pasta.

Also I made sweet potato hash browns the other night and they were wonderful. I shredded my potatoes, melted a little butter with some olive oil in the pan. Add the shredded sweet potatoes with just a little bit of brown sugar, a dash of salt, pepper and I added some cayenne pepper because I like sweet and hot. I cooked them until one side was browned and then flipped them over. They were awesome.|||you dont really have to eat just veggies but squash is great .

Here's a link to people that make veggie patties, veggie dogs ect. remember it take 21 days to make or break a habbit.

good luck|||You can do a lot with pasta. Nuts add texture and are a good source of protein. Actually, carmelized onions with almonds make a good dish. All you do is cut up a sweet onion and stirfry (throw in the almonds, too)it in a little oil until it softens. Then just sprinkle on a bit of sugar and keep heating it until it dissolves, just a few seconds.

Making your own bread is fun, and filling. All you need is flour and yeast. Then you can make herbed or garlic butter to spread on it.

TVP is good for making sloppy joes or spaghetti sauce. You have to soak it in tomato sauce to soften it.

It's easy to make veggie burgers out of different grains and beans. My favorite is lentil burgers or rissoles.|||Here are some links to vegetarian fake meat recipes...seitan (made with vital wheat gluten or whole wheat flour that is washed under water to wash out the starch and leaving the gluten) is high in protein and can be flavored to taste like meat with the use of vegetarian bouillon cubes.

I like homemade Banana Nut Bread to fill me up, but that is not really a high protein food but it does have nuts in it.

Rather than just buying random things (unless you tend to eat mostly whole foods) it's probably easier to look up recipes and find actual meal ideas.|||Ensure you up your dairy - nuts, milk, yogurt, hummus, cottage cheese, cheese, beans, tofu and eggs. I am a recent convert and am eating fish too. it makes it easier for eating out, celebration etc.

Eat protien with carbs. eg. peanut butter on bread. This stops you from not getting enough protien which you will esp. need if you are execising.

What do you think about tvp/tsp is it healthy?

how often do you eat it?how do you cook it?

i am 16 and my mom just bought me some i looked up some recipes but i was in a hurry so i put 1/2 cup dry tvp and 1/2 cup of soymilk(the recipes mostly dehydrated with water or vege broth..but i used soymilk for fun lol, and it turned out good!) and put in the microwave for 4 minutes. and mixed with peanuts after..

i ate it and it was a good treat and i enjoyed eating it thinking it was so healthy (i was amazed by it's nutritional value http://www.thedailyplate.com/nutrition-calories/food/generic/tvp-textured-vegetable-protein-dry) and was planing on eating this for brekafast a lot (instead of oatmeal..which has the same about of 150calories but only 5 grams of protein..and tvp has 24g. protein for 160cals!!!)

    then i read this...

    http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=12321.0

By the girl named "nubbyknowhow"'s answer.

it makes sence to me so far..

    is she right?

do you think its health to eat tvp with soymilk and some nuts???|||tvp is healthy. especially for vegans since you don't get as much protein. you definitely need the protein source.|||lots of sodium. dont eat it every day|||TVP is healthy. It has lots of protein with very little fat. Eating protein has the added benefit of being "slow release" energy, so it will usually be several hours before you are hungry again.

It's not "junk food".|||I read that person's comment. It is not accurate to describe it as "the junk of the soybean". Some people have a mentality that everything is made of useful and useless parts (she used the word "guts") but this is not true. TVP is made from soy flour after the oil is removed and uses no major chemicals other than steam. There are far more chemicals used to extract oil. Oil or TVP, the chemicals are always removed before being sold to the consumer.

so yeah. how much weight will i lose? should i add/take away? how long will it take me to lose 30-35 pounds?

thanks in advance. you are loved.|||Yes you will loose alot of weight with this but it concerns me that you are eating 1,200 calories and 16 plus all that exercise. If you began to feel light headed or faint move your calorie intake to at least 1,400. I lost alot of weight by eating 1,300-1,600 calories a day. I really dont thin its necessary to go to as low as 1,200, especially when you are a teen and having a fast metabolism.

Will This Help Me Lose Weight?

does this sound like a good diet?

so yeah, is that healthy? how much weight will i lose? if it helps, right now i'm 16 years old, 5'2'' and 144 pounds.

thanks in advance. you are loved.|||add about 700-800 more calories and you won't be looking to gnaw your arm off about 3 days into the diet.

I want to become vegetarian, mainly for health reasons. What are my chances of losing weight? ?

Probably 75% of my diet has been meat for the past 15 years. I'm sick of it. It's starting to disgust me and cause cravings at the same time and I can't seem to lose weight. I plan to eat a good balance of protein from soy and textured vegetable protein (wheat gluten), nuts, and beans along with carbs from vegetables, rice, some bread and pretty much everything else besides fruit. I can't stand fruit.

If I keep a good balance will I lose weight and stay healthy without increasing my exercise or starving and feeling hungry?|||Not all of the answers you've gotten so far are true, I actually DID lose weight after i stopped eating meat. Not intentionally, I just got skinny. But because I made that risk I also slowed down on eating things that weren't really healthy for me... I quit drinking soda, didn't eat as much junk food... never worked out though. Good luck.|||It is very likely that your diet change will help you lose weight. Well if you don't exchange meat for potatoes, which is what I did the first time I became a vegetarian. Potatoes are very not good for my thighs. Anyway, good luck.|||It's a common misconception that you can lose weight by becoming vegetarian. Vegetarians can eat cake and pie like meat eaters. You still have to concentrate on eating healthy to lose weight whether you eat meat or not.|||There is a good chance, but it is totally possible to become vegetarian and not loose any weight because even a vegetarian diet can be fattening or unhealthy if it is not done properly.|||With all diets, it is not about the food that you eat but the calories you consume. There are many vegetarians (myself included, before I went vegan) that will load up on chips, french fries and junk food, even though it's still "vegetarian". Because you stated that you are wanting to keep a healthy balance in your diet, it is likely that you will lose some weight. I would suggest checking out http://dailyplate.com This web site allows you to track your calories, keep you water intake, track your exercise and will allow you to see what percentage of protein, carbohydrates and fat your meals contain daily.|||People think that veg*nism = weight loss, and that's not the case. Some people notice a weight GAIN because they say, "Oh, cheese pizza? Ice cream? French fries? Chips? Oh, THOSE are vegetarian and therefore okay to eat!!" Plus, being a veg*n doesn't automatically make you get up and exercise.

So no, you will not necessarily lose weight just by switching.

If you actually want a "good balance of protein" as a vegetarian, rely on sources like beans, grains, eggs, and dairy. By the way, TVP is soy-based, not wheat gluten. You're thinking seitan.

If you have a balanced nutritional profile and a healthy exercise regimen, then yes, you will lose weight and stay healthy without starving or feeling hungry...but you gotta do the exercise portion. That's like assuming your car will be just fine if all you do is put gas in it and never change the oil or refill any fluids: doing a half-a$$ job is never satisfactory!|||You have to get healthy to lose weight. Your chances of losing weight are excellent if you eat a balanced diet and do not overeat (it's possible to be vegetarian and even vegan and be overweight).

I lost 50 lbs getting rid of meat and dairy and the only exercise I do is to walk 1 mile a day, sometimes 2 miles, with my dog. My allergies disappeared too. This took over a year though, so don't expect overnight miracles and ease into stopping eating meat slowly.|||Stick to the 3 Part plate meal idea, 15% Meat for good quality protein, 15% Carbs such as potato, pasta or rice, and 50% vegetables for good vitamin intake to help boost your immune system and keep ure digestive system flowing regularly. Excercise for half an hour 3-5 times a week, maybe cardiovascular excersise such as jogging. And ALWAYS eat a healthy breakfast such as Cereal, like porridge and bran flakes. try also Quorn, this is low in fat and is a meat substitute but is still high in protein.

Good luck|||I lost a lot of weight when I first went vegetarian, but I believe that was because I not only went vegetarian, but I was eating better food too plus walking.

I think so many people lose weight when they go vegetarian because when they make that choice, they also choose healthier options all the way around.

If you stick to 100% whole wheat and whole foods as much as possible and start some kind of exercise program with it, you'll probably lose weight easily unless there is some kind of medical or genetic reason which is very common too. If you make these changes and after 4-6 months aren't seeing any results, definitely see a doctor to rule out any of those medical/genetic reasons.|||This is not a very difficult question from the medical point of view... The answer has always been the same for many, many years now.

Weight loss= using more calories than you consume, (no matter what you eat)... That's it !!

For most people, weight loss can be accelerated by exercising. For others, it may be as simple as not eating as much. Everyone is different. Find what works best for you and stick with it...

GOOD LUCK !!!|||You might lose weight, you might not. It depends on how you balance your diet after the meat. What you will use to substitute it.

I did lose a little weight, but I figured since about 75-80% of my diet was meat, that I just wasn't eating as much. That's why I lost weight.

Well, you can also gain weight on a vegetarian diet.

So, it's your decision on what you eat, how often and how much.

    Good Luck

Has anyone tried nufu? If so, was it any good? + 2 BQ?

It's a soy-free peanut-based version of tofu, in case anyone is wondering.

    http://www.veganstore.com/index.html?sto鈥?/a>

For medical reasons, I have to lay off soy as much as I can now, sadly. So, I was looking for a replacement for my favorite soy products. So, has anyone tried it? Did you like it, if you did?

BQ: I prefer to make my own food from scratch myself. I guess I just like to be in control of what's in it. I've seen some recipes for non-soy tofu-type stuff but not being able to find anyone saying they've done it, and it turned out good kind of scares me. Has anyone tried any of those recipes? (things like chickpea tofu, peanut tofu, etc.) How did it turn out? If you have a recipe for a really good one, please include it :)

BQ 2: A lot of my favorite recipes include Textured Soy Protein. I've heard that there might be a Textured Vegetable Protein that's basically the same thing but no soy. Is this true, does it exist? If it does, any idea where I can buy it? I don't want to give up my recipes... so, if it isn't true is there anything I can substitute instead? I hope it's true, though, it'd make things easier.

Thanks!|||Haven't tried nufu, but I do know that there is a such thing as TVP. I first encountered it in a kid's cookbook, and I know my grandma has (or used to have) a big jar of it at her house. It looked kind of scary, but it was probably because it was in a jar and had been for a while.

Oh, and if you want some non-soy protein, quinoa is pretty good. You just have to put it in a rice-cooker with water.
