hey there do you know of a good mai tai recipe out there?
The best one i have ever had is @ a Japanese Steakhouse
called Hana Yoris ... Never had one like it since .. Duz anyone know one that is truly good?? This one also had a wedge of pineapple on top and an orange slice... It was AWSUM!|||ICE: ALWAYS USE ICE
In a 14oz. glass combine:
1 1/2 oz. light rum (clear)
3/4 oz. Cr茅me de Almond (or orgeat syrup)
1/2 oz. Triple Sec
Splash of lime juice.
Fill rest of glass with 1/2 OJ 1/2 leaving about 3/4 in. at the top.
Stir until pretty pink color is uniform.
Top with a floater of a black strap molasses rum (like Cruzan)
Garnish with a pineapple wedge or an orange...whatever.
"Fufu" drinks are by their very nature potent cocktails.|||Here is how I make a mai-tai.
Over crushed ice in a shaker you want:
1.5 oz light rum
1.5 oz dark rum
1/2 oz amaretto
1/2 bols or other orange liquer
1 oz lime juice
1 oz simple syrup (basically sugar syrup/bar syrup)
shake it with the ice, and pour it into a big Tiki mug (you _DO_ have a tiki mug, right?_)
Add an umbrella, the lime you juiced (hollow shell into the drink) and a fruit-spear with assorted tropical fruits on it across the top.
Now, that is the traditional "Trader Vic's" mai-tai, which isn't as sweet as the restaurants usually make them, but I like em.
For the sweeter version, it's usually rum, (one or more), sweet and sour syrup at the bar, perhaps some 7 up or other lemon/lime soda, and a float of 151 over crushed ice.
Or, meyers rum, triple-sec, pineapple and orange juice, grenadine.
There are at least 10 distinct mai-tai recipes out there, and they range from not particularly sweet, to tooth rotting, depending on which one you pick.|||I keep mine simple and they're always good. Just mix 2 shots bacardi superior (clear) with a splash or two of bacardi dark rum, 2 parts orange juice, 1 part pineapple juice, a splash of cherry juice and a few cherries.|||Argh, I've worked in so many bars and in each of them it's a different recipe. My favourite is actually the most simple one of the bunch, and not just because it's easy ;)
2 oz Appleton VX
the juice of one lime
Splash orgeat syrup
1 oz Cointreau (or other triple Sec)
Shake it up and serve over crushed ice in a rocks glass. Garnish with a mint sprig.
It's delicious! When making a Mai Tai the rum is really important, cause unless you plan on putting a lot of different ingredients in, the taste is really going to cut through.
10 Cane rum also works really well...
Good luck!
